About the Artist

Vassily  A. Leskov was born in 1946 in an old Russian town  Maloyaroslavets.  He spent his early years in the home of his grandfather, a famous Russian artist Aphanasy E. Kulikov. Vassily Leskov’s ability to draw and paint appeared early influenced by the creative environment of his grandfather’s home and picturesque landscapes of the provincial Kaluga area.

But it is not always that a life path looks like a straight line.

In his young years the artist got interested in science and entered the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, but he would continue to be engaged in painting. The artist would always bring folders of sketches and drawings from travelling in the Russian North, visiting monasteries and the depth of the country.

His zeal for painting develops and becomes stronger, and he enters the Moscow State Art College in memory of 1905, and his life since then is devoted to painting. A portrait occupies a special place in any painter’s work.

Often he doesn’t  paint  just from life, but works out an individual composition.  In the first version of “Cleopatra” one can see the face of the artist’s wife Ekaterina. The artist’s works are multidimensional – there are compositions influenced by the  “ World of Art”, and realistic landscapes with a tinge of impressionism, and a series of portraits where one can feel the wonderful discoveries of the “Pre-Raphaelites”, as if the artist would be bored to work in one and the same manner, and he is experimenting, not looking back at the critics too much. However, the most important  thing is that in all paintings one can unmistakably see his personality, the personality of a serious-minded, intellectual artist; his works are full of hidden symbols.

In his mature years the artist collaborated with the following galleries: «Omnifinart»,«ARCS», «Aspiration», «Gallery NU»,  «Licronos», « Saatchi Gallery», etc. He is a member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia”. A lot of his works are in private collections in Russia, Western Europe, USA, Canada etc.
